Storage Tips for Holiday Decorations

In Nashville, the storing process after the holidays generates as much stress as the decorating process. Make sure you dedicate clutter-free space to Christmas storage away from chemicals and flames. SERVPRO of Belle Meade / West Nashville suggests organization first and storage second with these tips.
Ornaments Go in an Ornament Container
Place ornaments in an ornament container. An ornament container has two to four trays with several square components where each ornament has separate space. Alternatives to an ornament container are an ornament storage chest, egg carton, apple container, and ornaments' original boxes. Cut paper towels or a tissue carton in half; stuff an ornament in each one. Additionally, use cups with lids and gallon resealable bags to store ornaments. Feel free to use more than one idea if the ornaments are different sizes.
Wrap Christmas Lights Right
Detangling Christmas lights can drive you crazy. Solve that conundrum by wrapping Christmas lights around an object! A paper towel roll, a can, and cardboard are all great and cheap items to wrap lights. The strategy is handy to wrap tinsel garland as well.
Stuff Beaded Garland in a Bottle
Much like stuffing a letter in a bottle, you can stuff beaded garland in a bottle! Start by cleaning the bottle and drying it completely before inserting the garland to prevent mold. Don't worry about garland not sliding out of the bottle because it will slide out smoothly. Ensure the lid is on to keep pests out.
Tie and Store Artificial Trees
After use, fold the tree limbs upward and tie it two or three times. If the tree stacks, take it apart and fold tree limbs upward. Tied up trees are easier to store. Place the tied tree back into the original container, place it in a trash bag, or wrap it with plastic wrap.
Wrapping Materials Belong in an Organizer
An under-the-bed storage organizer is a good place to stuff wrapping paper, tissue paper, flattened gift bags, greeting cards, tags, gift boxes, tablecloths, napkins, and linens. Give the storage box a thorough cleaning and reuse it as Christmas wrapping storage. Place it with the seasonal items. An alternative is to reuse a hanging shoe organizer or an unused wastebasket.
Store Seasonal Items in a Large Container
Take the garland bottle, the ornament container, the wrapped Christmas lights and garland, and more seasonal items and store it in one large container. Take it to the reserved Christmas storage space. Label the container and the items inside. Place the wrapped artificial tree and wrapping storage nearby.
Make home maintenance easier by placing great care in storing seasonal items. By focusing on organization now, unloading seasonal decor will be hassle-free next year.
