It’s that time of year that we’ve been waiting for, when we can replace our winter coats with our shorts and tank tops. It also means Spring cleaning time is here and people are getting their houses ready for the beautiful weather ahead. Properties have been put through the ringer for the winter months and now may need some extra care to get the property ready for summer. Instead of worrying about repair and restoration while everyone is out enjoying the weather, walk through some maintenance tips to prevent the headache of water and flood damage this spring. According to Travelers.com, there are some important things to keep in mind when running through your spring maintenance and cleaning checklist this year.
Safety maintenance tips:
- Check electrical outlets for frayed wires or loose-fitting plugs. Make sure that fuse boxes, outlets and extension cords are not overloaded.
- Check the water heater for leaks or corrosion.
- Clean or replace the furnace filter.
- Inspect your home detectors and replace the batteries. These should actually be tested monthly to ensure that they’re working properly.
- Clean out the clothes dryer exhaust duct to make sure it isn’t clogged with lint or dust, which can be very flammable.
- Check the expiration on your fire extinguisher and make sure that it is located in an accessible area and ready for use.
- Look into possibly replacing high-intensity bulbs, such as incandescent bulbs that produce more heat, with fluorescent light bulbs.
