Avoid Nashville Water Damage During Holidays

With the cold weather and holidays coming around the corner, the last thing people need is a weather disaster such as water damage! Just like people walking around bundled up in their winter jackets and tons of layers, a house also has to have the proper insulation to keep its insides warm and stable. Without proper insulation, not only do costs go up for your heat, but this also can bring on frozen pipes. This is a very expensive and messy situation that people don’t want to find themselves stuck in, especially right around the holidays.
According to the Red Cross, there are preventative actions that can be taken ahead of time to stop pipes from freezing. Here are some tips to keep in mind this winter!
- When the weather is bitter cold outside, even a trickle of water dripping from a faucet can help prevent the pipes from freezing.
- Many people travel throughout the holidays, but this doesn’t mean that people should completely shun the heat from their homes. The temperature in a home should never go any lower than 55 degrees F.
- During the night, people tend to turn their heat down to save some money, but the temperature on the thermostat should actually always remain the same, no matter if it is day or night. Night is when the temperature drops the most, making it the time for pipes to freeze over easier, so this is a crucial time to have the heat up.
- Last, but not least, make sure your home is properly insulated to the standards of your state suggested by the IECC. Check out the climate zone and insulation information for your area here - http://www.efficientwindows.org/codes2012/Tennessee2012.pdf
