So you've cleaned your drapes and blinds, rid your gutters of unwelcome falling leaves, and had your HVAC unit checked! You are the model of pristine living and the envy of your social circle - except you may have missed a spot right there in your kitchen. Your power outlets.
Most areas in plain view receive routine maintenance such as vacuuming the carpet because it's an easy habit to get into. Yet we plug many electronic devices into sockets daily and never consider what muck lies beneath the protective plate. Do you want to know? Now you can't resist right? Let's take a peek shall we!
Before you do anything resembling getting close to an exposed outlet, turn off the power! Again, TURN OFF THE POWER before cleaning your outlets are all the clean energy is going to be zapped right out of you.
Removing the power plate is the easy part. Use a screwdriver, remove the screws and take the plate from the wall. Two options likely await you depending on where your socket is located. Outlets in the kitchen may have a yucky grease coating. Fight the urge to vomit. Grab a QTip and 409 and use it to wipe away the offensive substance. Try it like an ear canal and skirt the edges - don't enter directly.
This is also a good time to check the plate is flush with the wall with no exposed areas. You can readjust once you've finished the cleaning.
An extremely simple exercise gets your home one step closer to ultimate clean nirvana. Happy cleaning!
