Mold Remediation In Your Hotel

You have put a lot of time, money, and effort into your hotel business, and as a smart hotel owner, we know you’re careful to take the proper steps that will ensure your premises are in top-notch condition. Mold is one of those issues that no hotel proprietor ever wants to see, so today, we are sharing some tips that will help you keep your motel or hotel business free from mold so that your business won’t be adversely affected.
- Audit. Do an audit of your business premises to identify problem areas. If you find windows in some rooms frequently damp, or any persistent leaks in ceilings or hallways, these will be areas to focus on right away. Preventing mold from taking hold and spreading can be as simple as ripping up carpet or using cleaning and renovation products that are mold-preventive. If you do find that you have a mold issue, keep in mind that SERVPRO of Belle Meade is just a phone call away and we can get your property Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned.
- Drying. Mold growth can’t occur without moisture, so take care of wet areas immediately. Seepage after heavy rainfalls or melting snow and ice, carpet spills, or minor flooding due to broken pipes, etc. need to be fully dried within 24 to 48 hours. Make sure any affected bedding and furniture are either cleaned and dried completely or removed from the area entirely to prevent the need for mold remediation services.
- Ventilation. All areas need to be properly ventilated, including the kitchen to the on-site laundry, if you have one. Your housekeeping staff needs to be trained to keep a lookout for leaking AC units and plumbing in guest areas, and everyone should know what to look for in break areas, bathrooms, and other areas where they work daily. If mold is found, use the appropriate cleaning solutions, such as a bleach/water combination, and consider using dehumidifiers, especially in more humid regions, or during very wet seasons in your area to prevent further mold growth.
- Inspections. Regular inspection of exterior doors, windows, and roofing can expose any leaks or improper fits right away. Even the smallest leaks can, over time, cause a mold issue that can be difficult to eradicate. Making sure rain gutters are kept clean of dirt and debris is another preventive measure that can help.
- Products. When it comes time to repair or renovate, there are many mold-resistant products on the market to choose from today, such as drywall or Sheetrock. Many paints now include mold-inhibitors, as well, which are a great asset in the battle against mold, and these may be a helpful choice when you are repairing or renovating your hotel.
