Prepare for Nashville Spring flooding with Flood Safety Awareness Week

We know you all had it marked on your calendar but, yes, this is Flood Safety Awareness Week. As the weather turns from brutal cold we are all excited to see the first indicators of spring here in Nashville. Here are some tips from the National Weather Service for spring flood season:
Before a flood:
- Create a communications plan
- Assemble an emergency kit
- Know your risk
- Prepare your home
- Prepare your family/pets
- Charge your essential electronics
- Leave
During a Flood - this is really common sense but we will list in the interest of thorough journalism:
- Stay Informed
- Obey evacuation orders
- Get to higher ground
- Practice Electrical Safety
- Avoid flood waters
The most common forms of flooding we see in Nashville are basements and crawlspaces. Make sure to check your sump pump breaker switch and test your unit regularly for functionality.
