DIFFERENT SOURCES OF FIRE DAMAGE

7/23/2019 (Permalink)

When it comes to fire safety, there is a lot to think about, no matter the time of year. Each season brings its own fire challenges, and summertime is no exception. You’ll be spending more time enjoying the outdoors and the beautiful weather with friends and family this time of year, and you want everyone to be safe. With that in mind, today we are sharing different sources of fire damage.

  • Campfires and firepits. These two items are a big part of summer for most of us. Who doesn’t love sitting around a fire, enjoying a beverage and telling stories under the stars? However, it’s also a potential source of fire damage. Make sure you have an operational fire extinguisher at hand and that you know how to use it. If you have children around the fire, teach them early on how to practice fire safety.
  • Fireworks. It’s not unusual for people to ignore fire safety on the Fourth of July. Many cities have actually banned the use of fireworks within city limits, but often these bans are ignored and fire damage is the unfortunate result. Be wise and careful, and encourage those you love to adhere to fire safety ordinances.
  • Trash. Summertime requires yard cleanup and landscaping, and branches and other things can sometimes end up sitting in places they should not. Make sure you arrange for the pickup of all your trash, and place it in an area where it is unlikely to cause fire damage from a stray match or other sources of flame.
  • Electrical. If you have electrical cords running to equipment in your yard or free-standing garage, make sure they are in great shape, insulated properly, and that there is no overloading of electric sources.
  • Lightning. This is a source of fire damage that we can’t control. Be safe, and stay indoors during a storm that brings electrical activity with it.
